The sky, brought to the floor. This hand knotted wool Gabbeh area rug is the most sophisticated and colour-rich of the Gabbeh series — a luminous sky-blue abrash field that brings a cool, open, joyful presence to any interior, framing a spectacular central patchwork panel composition of extraordinary variety and beauty. Dozens of small square and rectangular panels fill the central field in an extraordinary multicolour palette — crimson-red, golden-amber, ivory-cream, forest-green, navy-blue, chocolate-brown, dusty-pink, and terracotta — each panel a miniature world of its own: zigzag chevrons, diamond medallions, checkerboard patterns, S-scroll forms, cross-plus motifs, and small geometric accents, no two panels the same. A central inner panel within the patchwork carries a larger turquoise-blue medallion composition — a rug within a rug, a composition within a composition. The wide border carries a continuous chevron-arrow pattern in multicolour on the sky-blue ground, with a fine geometric guard stripe. Multicolour tassel fringe at top and bottom.

The sky-blue field is not flat — it has the natural abrash variation of hand-spun wool, the cool luminous tone shifting subtly across the surface, giving the multicolour patchwork panels a depth and vibrancy that makes the entire composition feel alive and joyful. The Gabbeh is the oldest and most personal of all Persian rug traditions — woven by nomadic tribal women as personal expressions of their world and their stories. Crafted at 60 knots per square inch by master artisans in Bhadohi, India — the city that has been weaving the world’s finest hand knotted rugs for over 400 years. Available in 4x6 from stock — ready to ship. Also available made to order in additional sizes.
